Alsace wines are becoming ever more popular in the UK. More and more great things have been said about them recently. In this section we have taken some of our favourite bits from the most trusted of sources to help you decide on the right wine for you.

Country Life

Amelia Pinsent gives her top 30 wines for the summer and suggests as an option for grilled vegetables with Haloumi cheese, Cave de Turckheim Alsace Riesling Vieilles Vignes 2007, £8.99 Sainsbury's.

Rose Murray Brown looks at a selection of whites to suit all tastes and budgets. In the over £20 category, the Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 2006 from Zind Humbrecht, £26 Berry Bros & Rudd, is praised for fantastic complexity and promise to be an eye-open for lovers of intense off-dry Riesling

 

France Magazine

Sally Easton looks at the influence of wood on white wines and explains that large old wood casks have a positive effect on wine without altering the flavours. This effect is traditionally found in Alsace in wines such as Domaine Schlumberger Alsace Grand Cru Kitterlé, Pinot Gris 2006, £25.99 Wadebridge Wines.

The Daily Mail recommends wines to go with barbecue dishes.

The Field

Jonathan Ray experiments all sorts of wines with his friends with a variety of pork dishes and finds out that Cave de Beblenheim Réserve Pinot Gris is spot on with a fillet in creamy mushroom sauce.

 

France Magazine

Dominic Rippon thinks that Alsace can offer a large variety of wines thanks to the diversity of its terroir. He talks about his afternoon at Domaine Rolly-Gassman in the tiny village of Rorschwihr and picks Domaine Rolly-Gassman, Pinot Gris Rotleibel Vendanges Tardives 1996, £27 Blenheim Fine Wines, as his wine choice of the month.

 

The Norwich Evening News

The Evening News (Norwich) (24 April 2010) picks Crémant d'Alsace Riesling, £8.99 Tesco, as its Tipple of the Week. The floral and peachy flavours makes the wine a real delight Pairing suggestion: seafood, chicken breast and even goat's cheese.

 

Sunday Herald magazine

The Sunday Herald has a focus on Alsace and concludes that the depth, acidity and character of Alsace wines makes them some of the best food-friendly wines around.
